THE CONCEPT OF SWADESHI MOVEMENT IN GANDHIAN ERA AND AT PRESENT

 Swadeshi is the only doctrine consistent with the law of humanity and love” quoted by MahatmaGandhi. The Swadeshi Movement was a self-sufficiency movement and contributed to the development of Indian nationalism. In response the movement was formally started from Town Hall Calcutta on 7thAugust 1905 to curb foreign goods by relying on domestic production. Mahatma Gandhi described it asthe soul of swaraj. The movement took its vast size and shape after rich Indians donated money and land dedicated to Khadi and Gramodyog societies which started cloth production in every household. It also included other village industries so as to make village self-sufficient and self reliant. Bal Gangadhar Tilak was an Indian was one of the first and strongest advocates of swaraj and a strong radical in Indian consciousness. He is known for his quote “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it.” He believed in self reliance as a weapon against domination,promotted Swadeshi and boycott of foreign goods. Swarajya being the ultimate aim that was to be achieved and the means were swadeshi and boycott.

The Swadeshi Movement this time comes amid the global covid-19 pandemic, which has taken a heavy toll not just on human lives, but economies too. Government’s lockdown exist agenda and The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message is loud and clear. India needs to be self reliant im all aspects and not look to other countries to revive themself. He talked about how yoga and khadi have gone international today. He called on all Indians to become vocal for local not only to buy local products, but also to promote them proudly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the private sector to use the technology and resources available with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to help make India a vital part of the end-to-end supply chain in space technology. Speaking virtually at the launch of Indian Space Association (ISpA), a grouping of space and satellite companies, Modi said the government’s reforms in space were based on four pillars. “First, the freedom of innovation to the private sector, second, the role of the government as an enabler, third, preparing youth for the future, and fourth, to see the space sector as a resource for the progress of the common man,” he said. Modi's speech was also for global leaders who are looking at a country to invest in beyond China. India can become a formidable market force for the world.
